Achiron grece palea.

Apparatus:

Achiron ABC ef | Achyron H

palea ACH | pallea B ef

Translation:

Achiron is Greek for Latin palea {"chaff, bran"}.

Commentary:

Greek ἄχυρον /ákhyron/, mostly in the plural ἄχυρα /ákhyra/, means "chaff, bran, husks left after threshing or grinding" (LSJ). Simon is portraying the late Greek pronunciation involving the sound change υ > ι {/y/ pronounced like French 'u' or German 'ü' > /i/}.
