Since the ''clavis'' consist of a compilation of sources which are often not edited to modern standards, any research on the text is bound to be extremely complex indeed. Anyone working on the ''clavis'' has to look into these sources. Similarly, any research on every single one of the sources involves the ''clavis''. In many cases, this is further complicated by a language barrier, as many scholars specialize in either the Eastern or the Western world.

Simon Online is a joint edition and translation project of Simon of Genoa's clavis sanationis (more...). There are various ways how you can contribute to the project:

  • Write an entry to one of the lemmata, or add items to the bibliography. You don't need to submit a complete entry. You can do this by clicking on “edit”, writing your text and then saving it (this last point is important).
  • Discuss an entry; you can do this by clicking on “discussion”. This can be done in a very informal way. See for instance [[1]].

Since the clavis consist of a compilation of sources which are often not edited to modern standards, any research on the text is bound to be extremely complex indeed. Anyone working on the clavis has to look into these sources. Similarly, any research on every single one of the sources involves the clavis. In many cases, this is further complicated by a language barrier, as many scholars specialize in either the Eastern or the Western world.

The general aim of Simon Online is to facilitate any research on the clavis, which is an extremely important source for our understanding of medieval medicine, by providing a platform on which work can be carried out collectively, and in form of a flowing system.

You can start by translating an entry, or by collating blocks of text to work out the history of the clavis. Please remember that any contribution, even if it is just a translation of a brief entry, can be helpful to someone from a different field, and can lead to the discovery of new connections.

This project will be extended in due course. Some additional resources are already in preparation, and I am always grateful for any suggestions you might have.

There is a lot of interesting material to be discovered in the clavis, and I invite everybody to have a closer look.
