Aligos is said in Greek for Latin agnus castus {"vitex, chaste tree, chasteberry"}, see agnus castus above as described by Dyascorides.

Simon's aligos transcribes Greek λύγος /lýgos/ of which the basic meaning is "willow; twig" and which is also a synonym of agnus castus, its ultimate source being Dioscorides Longobardus, 1, 113, ed. Mihăescu (1938: 56-7) De agnu id est ligos.
