Translation:

Alkuomon writes Stephanus in his Synonyma for alkiomon, and he explains that it is {in Arabic} zebed albahar, which is in Latin spuma maris {"meerschaum"}. It is some some kind of scum, as explained above Alcionium.

Commentary:

Stephanus in his Breviarium writes: alcuo[mo]spuma mariszebet albahar [1]]. N.b. The redundant syllable here marked as [mo] has in the original a series of dots underneath, which signals that it is to be cancelled.

Alkuomon, better: *Alkuonion, is Stephanus' transcription of Greek ἀλκυόνιον /alkyónion/ "meerschaum". Simon is commenting on one of Stephanus' idiosyncrasies, i.e. to transcribe Greek υ { = 'y' in the Roman alphabet} as 'u' rather than the more commonly used 'i' or 'y'.

For further information see Alcionium, Zebet albahar.
