Translation:

Basal is Arabic for Latin cepe {"onions"}; Stephanus writes basalum.


Commentary:

Basal:
Wehr (1976): ﺑﺼﻞ /baṣal/ "onions, bulbs". Siggel (1950: 20): ﺑﺼﻞ /baṣal/ Allium cepa (Lil.); Küchenzwiebel {"cooking onion"}.

Stephanus in Breviarium writes: kromiõ … basalum [[1]].
N.b. Greek κρόμμυον /krómmyon/, itacist /krómion/, means "onion".
