Calkos grece est es.
Apparatus:
Chalkos f | Calkos AC ei | Calcos B
es AC efi {ms. i faded} | hes B
Translation:
Calkos is Greek for Latin es {"copper, bronze"}
Commentary:
χαλκός /khalkós/ in Greek means "copper" or "bronze", or "things made of this metal".
Latin aes, post-classically es, can mean "any crude metal dug out of the earth (except gold + silver)", but often "copper" or "bronze".
