Translation:

Carva: this is what Stephanus writes for kerva.

Commentary:

Simon is referring to Stephanus's entry in his Breviarium: kiqui … charuha [[1]]
N.B. Greek κίκι /kíki/, latinised cici, is usually seen as denoting Ricinus communis L., “castor-oil plant” [[2]].
Stephanus’s spelling “-qui” is to avoid the affricate reading pronunciation */kítsi, kítši/ which most Romance speakers would be prone to use.

Carva:
charuha/ kerua is Arabic خروع /ḫirwaʕ/ "castor-oil plant"; cf. Siggel(1950: 32).

The vocalisation of this word found in Stephanus and possibly also in Simon’s kerva could represent an attested variant vocalisation:

• Cf. Dozy I, 364: “خﺍروع /ḫarwāʕ/ = خروع /ḫirwaʕ/ ricin”, which is also the source for Corriente (1997: 154) s.v. *(XR^c)./ḫarwāʕ./
• Also Karbstein (2002: 279) “1-3) Christuspalme {i.e. ‘palma Christi’} Rizinus {sic!} communis L. خروع /ḫarwaʕ/ …
