Dars
From Simon Online
Dars arabice dens.
Translation:
Dars is Arabic for Latin dens {"molar tooth"; also: "tooth" in general}.
Commentary:
dens | dens {‘u’ above ‘n’ written by different hand?} j
Commentary:
Cf. Wehr (1976): ﺿﺮﺱ /ḍirs/ "molar tooth".
In the bilingual Arabic – Latin and Latin Arabic Vocabulista on ed. Schiaparelli (1871: 523) a vocalisation of the word closer to Simon's is given: ed. Schiaparelli (1871: 132): ﺿﺮﺱ /ḍars/ Dens, …; ed. Schiaparelli (1871: 337): ﺿﺮﺱ /ḍars/ DENS; Also Corriente (1989: 185) *ḌRS … /ḍars/.
Dozy (1877-81: II.8) has /ḍirs/ but mentions the vocalisation /ḍars/ with Vocabulista and de Alcalá (1883) as his witnesses.
