Effialte grece incubus.

Apparatus:

Effialte B ep | Efialte fj | Esfralte ACD {'ff' misread as 'sf'; 'i' misread as 'r'}.

Translation:

Effialte is Greek for Latin incubus.

Commentary:

Effialte:
Greek ἐφιάλτης /ephiáltēs/ "nightmare, conceived as a throttling demon" (LSJ).

Drop of ending "-s" in all forms is unexplained.

This word seems to have suffered a number of misreadings and corruptions early on; perhaps Simon did not see it as identical with Epialtes q.v.
