Fagin grece comedere.

Apparatus:

comedere ABC e | commedere f

Translation:

Fagin is Greek for Latin comedere {"to eat"}.

Commentary:

φαγεῖν /phageîn/ "to eat, devour"; Latin com-edere "to eat entirely up, consume".

Simon's form Fagin is a phonetic spelling showing the itacist sound change: ει /ei/ > ι /i/ of post-Koine Greek.
