Translation:

Frike is Greek for Latin rigor {"cramp, spasm"}.

Commentary:

φρίκη /phríkē/ means basically "coldness" by whatever cause: climate, fever, death or fear, etc. Simon's translation into Latin as rigor is perhaps not quite exact since rigor means "stiffness, rigidity; cramp, spasm" and rigere "to be stiff, rigid, etc.". A better match would have been Latin frigus or frigor which has a very similar semantic range to φρίκη /phríkē/. Perhaps frigor was the original translation by Simon, but it got corrupted very early on to rigor through loss of "f" since all our witnesses show rigor.
