Geld arabice pellis vel cutis.

Apparatus:

Whole entry missing in ms. p

pellis (-is f) AC efj | pelis B

Translation:

Geld is Arabic for Latin pellis {"skin, hide, felt, pelt"} or cutis {"skin"}.

Commentary:

Wehr (1976): ﺟﻠﺪ /ǧild/ "skin, hide, leather".

A vocalisation closer to Simon’s is found in the Spanish XII/XIII cc. glossary/dictionary Vocabulista, ed. Schiaparelli (1871: 80): ﺟﻠﺪ /ğald/ Corium, flagellare, pellis {“skin, hide, leather; to whip, scourge, lash; skin, hide (of a beast), whether on the body or taken off; a felt, pelt” (Lew&Short)} [[1]], (1871: 516): PELLIS ﺟﻠﺪ /ğald/ or /ğild/ [[2]];

and in de Alcalá (1883: 346): pelleja de animal {i.e. “skin/ hide of animal”}: geld [[3]].
