Translation:
Hasialrahy is Arabic for Latin virga pastoris {(lit.) "shepherd's crook"}. Stephanus writes the name of this plant as hasahelrai.
Commentary:
Siggel (1950: 20): ﻋﻀﺎ ﺍﻟﺮﺍﻋﻰ ... /ʕaṣā ar-rāʕī/ = ... Polygonum aviculare etc. {i.e. "common knotgrass"}.
Wehr (1976): ﻋﻀﺎ /ʕaṣan/ {√ʕṣw }"staff, rod; wand, stick …".
ﺭﺍﻋﻰ /rāʕin/ "shepherd, herdsman; guardian, keeper, protector; patron, sponsor; pastor (Chr.)"
Stephanus in his Breviarium writes: polygohiõ arrẽ uirga pastoris … hasaelrai
[[1]].
N.b. Here Stephanus transcribes Greek πολύγονον ἅρρεν /polýgonon árrhen/, lit. "male polygonon" sometimes translated into Latin as polygonos mas and polygonos masculus, identified by Siggel above and André (1985: 204) as Polygonum aviculare L., i.e. "common knotgrass"[[2]].
