Iulben liber de doctrina arabice est legumen dictum pisa.

Apparatus:

Iulben (-bẽ B) B efj | Iulbel p | Iulbere AC

Translation:

Iulben according to the liber de doctrina arabica is a leguminous plant called pisa {"pea"}.

Commentary:

According to Simon’s remarks in Preface § 6 he would have transcribed this lemma *Julben rathen than Iulben because 'I' here portrays the sound /ğ/ as in English "judge", but none of the witnesses consulted makes any distinction in writing between 'J' and 'I'.

Iulben:
Simon's often quoted source, the Liber de doctrina arabica, has so far not been identified, but cf., what must be a similar glossary/dictionary, i.e. Vocabulista, has, ed. Schiaparelli (1871: 80): ﺟﻠﺒﺎﻧﺔ /ğulbāna/ Pisa [[1]]; (1871: 523): ﺟﻠﺒﺎﻧﺔ ﺍﺕ ﺟﻠﺒﺎﻦ PISA /ğulbāna, ~āt, ğulbān/ [[2]].

Cf. Siggel (1950: 25): ﺟﻠﺒﺎﻦ /ğulbān/ Erbsenart v. Pisum od. Ervum; … in Marokko: Pisum sativum (Leg.). {i.e. "a kind of pea of the Pisum or Ervum genus; in Morocco Pisum sativum"}.
