Translation:
Karathin is Arabic for Latin lumbrici terrestres {"earth-worms"}, or isculi {id.}, or as the Greeks call them: "intestines of the earth" gisenteria.
Commentary:
Karathin:
Wehr (1976): ﺧﺮﺍﻃﻳﻦ /ḫarāṭīn/ "a kind of earthworm".
Siggel (1950: 31): ﺧﺮﺍﻃﻳﻦ /ḫarāṭīn/ Erdwürmer, Regenwurm {i.e. "earthworm"}.
This word is of Persian origin, cf. Steingass (1892: 451) خراتین /ḫarātīn/ "Earth-worms".
