Translation:

Oxi is Greek for Latin acutum {"sharpened, sharp, pointed"}, and oxos is in Latin acetum {"vinegar"}.


Commentary:

οξύ /oxý/ is the adj. neuter sg./nom. of masc. /oxýs/ οξύς, fem. /oxeîa/ οξεῖα "sharp; pungent; keen". N.b. Medieval/ Modern Greek υ > ι.

όξος /óxos/ "poor wine; vinegar".
