Probaton vel ut grecus provaton ovis.

Apparatus:

vel ut ABCD | velud e | om. f

provaton ABC e | provatum D | prouaton est f

Translation:

Probaton - or as a Greek would pronounce it provaton - is in Latin ovis {"sheep"}.

Commentary:

πρόβατον /próbaton/ originally referred to cattle but was later used almost exclusively for sheep. Simon's spelling of the Greek form reflects a late Greek sound change /b/ > /v/ resulting in /próvaton/.
