Psilla grece pulex inde.
Apparatus:
Psila ABD | Psilla C ef
inde ABDC | inde or uide? f | om. e
Translation:
Psilla is Greek for Latin pulex {"flea"} from which the next entry Psilium is derived.
Commentary:
Greek ψύλλα /psýlla/ - itacist /psíla/ - like Latin pulex means "flea".
Greek υ had changed to ι, i.e. /y/ > /i/ and double consonants like like λλ = /ll/ were no longer distinguished in later Greek spoken language. This explains the inconsistency in some mss.: Psila and Psilla.
