Ptoma grece corpus et pro cadavere sumitur soma proprie corpus.
Apparatus:
{cadavere} etiam add. B
soma ABC f | sʒ magis ms. e
{proprie corpus} gŕ. {= grece} add. B
Translation:
Ptoma {"carcase"} is Greek for Latin corpus {"living or dead body"}, but it equates {more precisely} to Latin cadaver {"dead body"}; however Greek soma is the appropriate word for Latin corpus {"living body"}.
Commentary:
Greek πτῶμα /ptôma/ is in its basic meaning "fall" and hence: "fallen body, corpse, carcase". The "living body" is in classical Greek σῶμα /sôma/, although in Homeric Greek it always denotes "dead body".
