Commentary:
Putinada:
and the other misreadings are attempts at rendering Greek βουνιάς /bouniás/, the name for a variety of napus, here derived from the accusative sg. form βουνιάδα /bouniáda/ and corrupted to Simon’s putinada. The change from initial /b-/ to /p-/ may be due to folk etymology, seeing putidus “fetid” in the first element of this foreign name, signalling the plant’s disagreeable smell.
