Translation:
Rhincho is the Greek word for Latin rostrum {“bill or beak of a bird, the snout, muzzle, mouth of animal”}, and it is spelt rigchos, but pronounced rinchos.
Commentary:
Cf. Greek ῥύγχοϛ /rhýnkhos/ “snout, muzzle (of pigs, dogs and other quadrupeds); beak, bill (of birds)”.
Simon’s form is affected by the late Greek sound-change υ > ι = /y > i/.
For the Greek spelling /rhýgkhos/ but pronounced /rhýnkhos/ see G littera.
For the aspiration of Greek word-initial rho: Ρ,ρ i.e. “R,r” see R littera.
The missing final “s” in the headword Rhincho is most likely due to a scribe’s or printer’s negligence.
