Rhincho grece rostrum et scribitur rigchos et profertur rinchos.
Apparatus:
Rhincho AC | Rincho efjp | Rĩco B
rigchos AC efp | rigeos B j {‘c’ misread as ‘e’}
Ms. p adds an attempt at writing ῥύγχοϛ /rhýnkhos/ in Greek script
Translation:
Rhincho is the Greek word for Latin rostrum {"bill or beak of a bird, the snout, muzzle, mouth of animal"}, and it is spelt rigchos, but pronounced rinchos.
Commentary:
Rhincho:
Cf. Greek ῥύγχοϛ /rhýnkhos/ "snout, muzzle (of pigs, dogs and other quadrupeds); beak, bill (of birds)".
For the aspiration of word-initial rho: “Ρ,ρ “ {i.e. in the Latin alphabet: “R,r”) in classical Greek and later loss of it see R littera: ῥ- /rh-/ > /r-/. The spelling Rhincho in witnesses AC is purely etymologising and does not indicate any special “aspirated” pronunciation.
Simon’s form is also affected by the late Greek sound-change υ > ι = /y > i/: classical ῥύ- /rhý-/ > itacist /rí-/.
For the Greek spelling /rhýgkhos/ but pronounced /rhýnkhos/, itacist /rínkhos/ see G littera.
The missing final "s" in the headword Rhincho is most likely due to a scribe's negligence.
