Translation:
Saro is Arabic for Latin cipressus {"cypress"} as found in Avicenna, but in the Liber de doctrina arabica it is witten as sorol.
Commentary:
Wehr (1976): ﺳﺮﻭ /sarw/ (coll.; n.un. ﺓ) "evergreen cypress (Cupressus sempervirens L.; bot.)" Siggel (1950: 41): ﺳﺮﻭ /sarw/ Cupressus sempervirens (Pinac,) Zypresse {i.e. "cypress"}.
The form sorol/sarcol/sarol quoted from the Liber de doctrina arabica, which so far has not been identified, is most likely only a corruption of the fore-mentioned Saro.
Simon is referring to Avicenna's Canon, Liber secundus, [Goehl] Capitulum 150 (149). De cypresso (cupresso (annotation: seru)). This text is also available online in the Lyon edition (1522; 85), De cypresso. Cap. cl [[1]].
For the Arabic original cf. book II, p. 219: ﺳﺮﻭ /sarw/ [[2]].
