Sermacum et sermaci scripsit Stephanus pro sarmech quod est attriplex.
Apparatus:
pro sarmech om. p
sarmech ABC | sermech (ser- f) ef | sarmeth j
attriplex AC f | atriplex B ejp
Translation:
Stephanus writes sermacum and sermaci for Arabic sarmech, which is in Latin attriplex {"orache"}.
Commentary:
Stephanus in his Breviarium writes: Andrafaxis ... atriplex ... sermacũ catafum [[1]]
Sermacum, sermaci:
Cf. Siggel (1950: 41): ... ﺳﺮﻣﻖ /sarmaq/, Atriplex hortensis (Chenopodiac.), Gartenmelde {i.e. "orache"}.
Simon has given the Arabic word a Latin ending –um, sermaci is a genitival form.
