Translation:
Smiris {"emery"} is a very abrasive stone with which other stones are ground and polished.
Commentary:
Cf. Greek σμύρις /smýris/, variants /σμίρις /smirís/ and σμιρίς /smirís/, means "emery powder, used by lapidaries" (LSJ). The etymology of this word is disputed.
