arabice | g’ {= grece} j

Translation:

Yeman is Arabic for Latin turtur {"turtledove"}.

Commentary:

Wehr: ﻳﻤﺎﻡ /yamām/ "pigeon, dove"; Siggel p.74: ﻳﻤﺎﻡ /yamām/ … Turteltaube {i.e. "turtledove"}.

Ornithological remarks:

The European turtle dove, Streptopelia turtur Linnaeus 1758, [[1]], belonging to the Columbidae, i.e. pigeons and doves, is a migratory bird with a near pan-European, North-African, Near Eastern distribution. The birds winter in southern Africa. In the Near East, Iran and Arabia one encounters the subspecies S. turtur ssp. arenicola, which is slightly less contrastive than its European relative [[2]].

An unlikely further candidate is the "dusky turtle dove", Streptopelia lugens Rüppel 1837 with a mainly westside of Africa distribution and found only in a small area in Saudi Arabia and Yemen adjacent to the Horn of Africa [[3]].
