Yetos
From Simon Online
Yetos grece imber pluvia.
Apparatus:
imber ABC | ymber ef
Translation:
Yetos is Greek for Latin imber or pluvia {"rain"}.
Commentary:
Cf. Greek ὑετός /hyetós/ "rain; esp. heavy shower".
Aspiration {i.e. /h/} had long disappeared from spoken Greek by Simon's time, and the classical Greek vowel sound similar to French "sud", German "Süden", represented in Greek by the letter 'Υ,υ' had changed its pronunciation to /i/. One can therefore assume that Simon's pronunciation was /í-etos/.
