Ymon (1)
From Simon Online
Ymon Dya. sic multi asperagum appellant.
Translation:
Ymon is what according to Dyascorides many people call asperagum {"asparagus"}.
Commentary:
Dioscorides Longobardus, the ultimate source for Simon's statement, says in 2, 109, ed. Stadler (1899: 221), De sparagu: Sparagus aspratalis {sic!}, quem multi racanto aut mion appellant – "The rough/wild asparagus is called by many people racanto or mion".
Ymon is just another corruption of the Greek word ὄρμινον /hórminon/ or ὄρμινος /hórminos/ "a kind of sage, clary", which was analysed in the above entry Racanto q.v.
