Kinos
Kimos Stephanus herba portulace similis et cetera.
Apparatus:
This lemma is not rubricated in B but is part of the section beginning with Kĩosis.
Kimos ejp | Kĩos B | Kinos AC {wrong expansion of Kĩos} | Kinosis f {contamination with the headword of a previous entry Kimosis}
et cetera om. B efjp
Translation:
Kimos, Stephanus says, is a herb similar to portulaca {“purslane”}, et cetera.
Commentary:
Stephanus in his Breviarium writes: Kimos herba portulace similis [[1]].
With this lemma Stephanus only offers for Latin a comparison with portulaca but no real Latin equivalent nor an Arabic plant name.
Kimos:
The Greek plant name κῆμος /kêmos/, itacist /kímos/, is described by LSJ as a synonym of λεοντοπόδιον /leontopódion/ and λεοντοπέταλον /leontopétalon/. For further discussion and the botanical identification see the entry Comos, where parts of Dioscorides’ chapter on κῆμος /kêmos/ is quoted.
