Commentary:
Wehr (1976): ﺗﻔﺎﺡ /tuffāḥ/ "apple(s)". Siggel (1950: 23): ﺗﻔﺎﺡ /tuffāḥ/ Pirus malus, Apfel {"apple"}.
Simon is using here typically late Latin fruit names, i.e. poma, originally from a neuter singular pomum, meaning "any fruit: apples, cherries, nuts, berries, figs, dates, etc." (cf. under pomum, Lewis & Short, 1879), but becoming a feminine singular poma, as witnessed in its French reflex la pomme, etc., cf. Väänänen (1981: 102, § 216). Similarly mala is from a singular malum "apple".
