From Simon Online
Zahafaram arabice crocus et est a latino nam grecus crokos.
Apparatus:
Zahafaram (-faran e) B e | Zahataram f {'f' misread as 't'} | Zehafaram AC
g̃cus (g̃ f) crokos B f | grecus (-cus C) crochos AC | ut apud nos grecus crokos ms. e
Translation:
Zahefaram is Arabic for crocus, the latter {pronunciation} being from Latin, but a Greek speaker {says} crokos.
Commentary:
Cf. Wehr (1976): ﺯﻋﻔﺭﺍﻥ /zaʕfarān/ "saffron". Siggel (1950: 40): ﺯﻋﻔﺭﺍﻥ /zaʕfarān/ Bt.-Staub v. Crocus sativus (Iridac.); Safran {i.e. "pollen from C. sativus, saffron"}
The Latin word crocus is of course loaned from Greek κρόκος /krókos/; the spelling crochos in witnesses AC is hypercorrect.
